Warning Messages and Security Status

All the important things to know about your security status, the warning messages through the app and a step-by-step guide on what to do if a data breach is detected.

There are many bogus or obsolete data records on the dark web. We use a stringent validation process to ensure that we only warn you in the event of real and verified data leaks. We want to avoid the unnecessary panic caused by false alarms.

Whether or not you actually respond to the individual warnings is up to you. We cannot track whether individual steps have been taken. However, we recommend taking immediate action when you receive warnings, so you can prevent further data leaks or damage. Our recommendations let you make your data more secure and prevent it from being compromised. However, there is no such thing as complete protection and there is still a risk of unauthorised access by third parties.

Your status turns green if there are no data leaks at present or once you have processed all the warnings. Important: the status is based on your feedback, so please do not mark warnings as “Completed” until you have actually changed passwords, and so on.

The app will promptly alert you as soon as evidence of your data appearing online is found. Your security status will then show you exactly which data has been affected and what you can do to prevent further damage.

If you mark a warning as completed without implementing the recommendation, you cannot reverse that. However, you can still view the warning under the “Resolved” menu item and follow the steps at a later stage.

Yes, as long as your dashboard shows the message “Monitoring active”, everything is working. The fact that you are not receiving warnings is good news: it means that our check has not found your data in any known leaks. You can enjoy the internet without any worries – we will notify you immediately if that changes.

Not necessarily. Firstly, a warning just means that your data has appeared in a data leak. The question of whether criminals are already using it is still an open one. However: the risk is greater. With that in mind, follow our recommendations for action (such as changing your password) immediately to prevent any theft. At the start especially, we may also find older leaks from the past ten years.

Under “Notifications” in the settings, you can choose whether to receive new warnings by e-mail or push notification. We recommend activating at least one type of notification to ensure that you are informed and can respond quickly when warnings are issued.

The status indicates the risk to your data:

  • Grey: you have not entered any data yet or do not have an active subscription.
  • Red/yellow: there are open warnings (“risk”). Complete the recommendations for action to improve the status.
  • Green: everything is okay. No current leaks have been found or you have processed all the warnings.

You will be notified immediately via the app, with details of the type of leak and the type of data affected. You will also receive practical recommendations for protecting yourself more effectively. Step by step, we show you how to secure your accounts, change passwords or contact your bank so you can take action when you need to most.
